It was 9:00pm and I was ready to turn out the lights and the world and go to sleep. Too much time scrolling through articles and responses online had left me in a state of questioning everything I thought was settled.
A soft pillow under my head and the covers pulled up to my chin were calling, but first a conversation with my husband. He listened. He told me good, solid truth. Truth that came straight from Scripture and I felt peace.
Friends, lots of things change. It can seem like there isn’t anything or anyone you can trust. Maybe you need the reminder that I needed. God doesn’t change.
Hebrews 13:8- “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”
A month ago, I sat with my husband and friends at our church and took in the news that a leader we had trusted, had grossly betrayed that trust. What in the world do you do with news like that? It makes you question lots of things.
What was true? What was a lie? We had to sift through the muck to separate the two. In the end, this is what we always find: People will fail us. God will not.
II Timothy 2:13- “If we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot deny himself.”
When I looked back through Scripture and noticed the themes that never changed, from the Old Testament to the New Testament, it renewed my faith. God’s design for families, the great rescue plan He put into place from the very beginning to redeem His children, God’s deep love for us, His forgiveness when we ask, Our desperate need for a Savior, His great esteem for men & women (even in the middle of a culture that didn’t). . . . it’s all been there from Genesis until today.
I Samuel 15:29- “Also the Glory of Israel will not lie or change His mind; for He is not a man that He should change His mind.”
Do you need to be reminded that the same God who created this universe and whose hand guided the writing of the Scriptures knew what 2016 would hold? He knew what our culture would look like. He knew what questions we would have.
Isaiah 40:8- “The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever.”
Be encouraged. In a world that is ever changing, we have hope in an unchanging God.
