Something Better Than Answers

I would have paid a lot of money for clarity. I asked God for more details. I begged for just one thing to give certainty.

God didn’t see the need to give me any of that.

I’m not mad about it. (now)

I’ve learned something about certainty and clarity in the last months. It seems the more confident we are in our own knowledge, the less we tend to rely on Jesus.

Oh, I kept begging. Don’t get me wrong. But after more than 100 days of pleading, I realized I was getting something better than answers. I was clutching Jesus more than I had in a long time.

We asked Him for more information and, instead, He reminded us of His character.

It was as if He said, “What do you know about Me?”

The answer to that question gave just enough light to take our next right step.

You were the Word at the beginning
One With God the Lord Most High
Your hidden glory in creation
Now revealed in You our Christ

Did we trust what He entrusted us with? Did we trust God’s Word, His goodness, and His holiness?

Yes.

What a beautiful Name it is
What a beautiful Name it is
The Name of Jesus Christ my King

It’s a crazy paradox to sit in the middle of a hazy, sinful world full of brokenness, confusion, and uncertainty, and find peace about the one thing we feel certain about– Jesus is calling us to follow Him.

Even when it doesn’t make sense.
Even when the math doesn’t work.
Even when there is no safety net.

You didn’t want heaven without us
So Jesus, You brought heaven down
My sin was great, Your love was greater
What could separate us now
What a wonderful Name it is
What a wonderful Name it is
The Name of Jesus Christ my King

We found as Russ Ramsey says in the foreword to Jen Pollock Michel’s book Surprised by Paradox, “These questions do not drive us away from God; they draw us near.”

I don’t know what answers you’re looking for today, but I hope in your searching you find that Jesus is good, loving and trustworthy.

“His divine power has given us everything required for life and godliness through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.” II Peter 1:3.
