Dear Walmart, Why Are You Selling Valentine’s Items 5 Days Before Christmas?

Dear WalMart,

Today, I took my kids to do some Christmas shopping. It’s December 20th. A perfectly reasonable time to shop for Christmas, right? We gathered a few things and headed toward the “Seasonal” aisle in the grocery area. This is the sight that greeted me:

Valentine’s stuff everywhere.

I’m doing my last-minute Christmas shopping and you’re taking the Christmas stuff off the shelves and replacing it with Valentine’s Day items. I don’t understand. Have I missed something? I don’t know a single person who is thinking about shopping for Valentine’s Day on December 20th. I am willing to make a wild assumption that your parking lot is not full because people are hoping to get a jump start on their Valentine’s shopping.

I should have suspected something was up when I didn’t see the familiar sign greeting me that said, “Only 5 days until Christmas”.

I would love to focus on celebrating one holiday at a time. Could we work on that? I’m afraid when I go back to the store, on January 1st you’ll be selling fireworks for Independence Day and I won’t be able to find Valentine’s for my children’s school parties.

The alternative is that I could start giving Valentine’s to my family for Christmas, setting off fireworks for Valentine’s day and sending Christmas cards in honor of Labor Day. I would rather not, though.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Your customers who are still figuring out stocking stuffers and last minute Christmas gifts
