I love seeing what everyone is reading because I’m constantly on the lookout for good books. These are some of my favorites from 2016. I’ve been erring on the side of non-fiction even though I love fiction. Maybe 2017 should be the year of fiction?

What Alice Forgot

A fiction book! It’s one memorable one from this year and I really enjoyed it. This one was perfect for sitting by the pool in the summer. It is the story of a woman who gets amnesia and forgets a huge portion of her recent life. The ending surprised me in a good way.

Falling Free

This is Shannan Martin’s first book. It won’t be her last. This is Shannon’s story of the journey their family has been on over the past several years. It will make you want to live a better story and inspire you to engage in your local community.

Nothing To Prove

I got to preview this book as a member of Jennie Allen’s launch team. It came at the perfect time. Jennie is one of my favorite authors in the Christian living category. She explains important Biblical truths in a clear and powerful way. The book speaks to the fear that lots of women have- that we aren’t enough and that we’ll be found out.

The Memoir Project

This was a nonfiction book that read like fiction. I loved it. It’s a small book and easily read in a few days. If you have any inclination to write fiction or nonfiction that captures someone’s attention, this is the book for you. You don’t need to have plans to write memoir to find value in this book.

The Best Yes

Lysa Terkeurst is also at the top of my list of authors that can communicate Biblical truth powerfully. This one was so practical for me and gave me a perspective on how I use my time and how I decide between “good” and “best”.

Rising Strong

Brene Brown is ridiculously smart. She studies people and her observations are fascinating. Rising Strong gave me some tools for processing difficult life seasons, relationships, and conflict in general.

All In

I first rest Mark Batterson when I discovered the book, The Circle Maker. Here’s the amazon synopsis because it describes this book better than I could:

“The message of All In is simple: if Jesus is not Lord of all then Jesus is not Lord at all.  It’s all or nothing. It’s now or never.   Kneeling at the foot of cross of Christ and surrendering to His Lordship is a radical act of dethroning yourself and enthroning Christ as King.  It’s also an act of disowning yourself.  Nothing belongs to you. Not even you.”

Simply Tuesday

Emily P. Freeman’s niche is “creating space for your soul to breathe”. Simply Tuesday does that for me. It celebrates the small moments of life because that’s what life is built on, afterall. It will make you stand up and cheer, “Yay, Tuesday” right along with Emily.

Giddy Up, Eunice

This is on my list even though I’m still working on it. It’s making me laugh out loud. Sophie Hudson is flat-out funny. She’s the friend who you want sitting next you who makes you laugh a the just the right moments, helps you not take things too seriously, but can also drop the most amazing wisdom at just the right time. This book is about friendship and how women need each other. You will love Sophie!
