Summer Boredom Busters

I’ve scoured the “pin”ternet so you don’t have to yourself. Here are some creative ways to kick off your summer. What mom couldn’t use some summer boredom busters?

To quote a great mind of our time:

“There’s 104 days of summer vacation
And school comes along just to end it
So the annual problem for our generation
Is finding a good way to spend it!”

  • One of my favorite summer ideas is to make an “I’m Bored” Jar. I LOVE this.  You can make this as complicated or simple as you like.  The inspiration for this picture can be found at this link.

  • Set up a regular routine to manage expectations. Here is a good example:

I like the idea of a routine even if it’s just a routine that says, “Monday-Entertain yourself”! 🙂 A summer routine doesn’t mean you are entertaining your kids every day all day. It might just be a way of helping your kids think of creative things to do in different categories.

  • Sign up for your local library reading program. The libraries in our area give away a lot of freebies as a part of the summer reading program. Sign up all your kids. Some have adult things too! We’ve hit the jackpot in the past with earning coupons for Chick Fil A and Sonic!

I like the idea of measuring how your kids improve their time in running a block, number of push-ups or sit-ups throughout the summer. It feeds the competitive nature of some kids and keeps them moving.

Now go do something fun this week!
