Advent, Unwrapping The True Gift Of Christmas: Isaac

“The Lord kept his word and did for Sarah exactly what he had promised.”

-Genesis 21:1

God made an unbelievable promise to a childless couple. She laughed. Not a joyful laugh, but a cynical, “yeah, right” laugh.

It wasn’t in her timing, but the Lord kept His word.

He always keeps His word.

On a bitter, cold day in January of 2008. I stood and watched as my father pleaded to God for my mom’s life to be spared. God took her instead and our hearts broke into a million pieces. From a headache to no brain activity in a matter of days. Have you ever stood toe to toe with God with your heart breaking only to hear a, “no”?

Yet, God whispered a promise that He was still there and that His plans were good.

When you can hardly stand to hear how God answers prayers because you wonder if He is listening to yours, remember Sarah.

Some have to pay with some precious currency to learn God’s ways are not ours. Yet He keeps His word. Not in our timing. Not in Sarah’s timing. He kept His word. What He has promised He will do. I don’t know how it will look, but he has an Isaac for you. Laughter is coming.

Advent is God keeping His word.

He will keep His word.

17 months after God took my mom, our Isaac was born.

“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.” Hebrews 10:23
